Good Luck Jennifer |
Following a rigorous application process and a thorough on-site inspection, we have been awarded the USDA certified organic seal. Our certification includes the prime farm land on our Newbury property, and the Greater Newburyport CSA PYO garden directly behind the First Parish Church of Newbury. Great Marsh Organics is certified by Baystate Organic Certifiers. In addition, all of the seedlings being nurtured in our greenhouse for the PYO garden are certified organic. What does all this mean for our shareholders? If you're a member, you'll be able to enjoy access to the only certified organic CSA pick-your-own garden offered in the Newburyport area. Distribution items delivered by our friends Bruce and Jenny Wooster of Picadilly Farm are grown using only organic methods. The farm is currently in a three year waiting period for organic certification and will be eligible for certification in 2009. |
By the end of June, our CSA program swelled to capacity and we started a waiting list. Additional crops in July meant we were able to invite several people on the waiting list to come and enjoy the harvest with us. A few of our members worked with the First Parish Church and New Eden Collaborative to create a float for the Yankee Homecoming Parade. The float won the Mayor's Award for originality and took home the 1st prize trophy! We recently collected surveys, and over the winter we'll be working on ways to do more and better for our members, the environment, and the community at large. Thanks to everyone who expressed the desire to continue with us for another year. We're grateful for your encouragement, the warmth of your friendship, your shared recipes, and your ongoing support. The Greater Newburyport CSA is expanding our membership and we're currently accepting new members for the 2009 growing season. We look forward to meeting you under the canopy next Spring! |
Upon the completion of my internship, which ended in late August, I had enjoyed my experience so much that I decided to continue working at the CSA for the remainder of the season, and will continue next year. I love interacting with all of the wonderful members that I have had the pleasure of meeting this season. It has been such a wonderful experience. Not only do I get to work side-by-side with amazing people, growing amazing things in a sustainable way, but I also get to interact with all of the wonderful members we have as well. It has truly been a pleasure greeting and assisting all of you every Friday. I look forward to seeing you all again next Spring, as well as any new members that may be joining us between now and then. I can't wait! Until then, I wish you all health, happiness, and peace in your lives. Jennifer |
As the 2008 CSA season comes to a close, we have our members to thank for a wildly successful inaugural year. Your enthusiastic support allowed the CSA to commence with more than twice as many shareholders as we had originally hoped to serve, and each week, the membership continued to grow. |
