“My parents had an immense garden that kept the entire neighborhood supplied with fresh vegetables, and I spent many summers as their in-house farmhand." |
“I grew up in a small town near the Artic Circle in Finland. Like many people in our small town, my family gathered wild berries every summer to supplement our diet and to earn extra money." |
"We grow everything organically without chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. We are able to grow beautiful fruit this way while also doing the right thing in terms of our and our land's health." "We enjoy growing berries because it is hard to beat the quality of the fruit we grow compared to what we see available commercially. We like being in charge of the growing methods and can eat or process the fruit at it's freshest." "We are planning to increase our blueberry and rasberry production to be able to share our fruit and jams with the CSA members." "We are excited to be working with Bonnie and Russ and look forward to meeting all the shareholders." "My husband Peter and I are owned by our Newfie and English Mastiffs and they mean the world to us. I love watching and learning about birds and other wildlife that visit our property and the surrounding Riverbend conservation area. I am also passionate about public education. For the past seven years, I have volunteered in the Boston public schools to mentor elementary school children in literacy and math." |
"We're constantly experimenting- if we test a variety and determine that it doesn't thrive under our local conditions, we won't continue to grow it. It's much more rewarding and easier to grow successfully when you work with your local environment rather than fighting against it." "There's simply no need to resort to all the chemicals. Although we grow a number of vegetables, lettuce is our particular specialty. There are hundreds of varieties that will never be found in a grocery store - they're just not suited for mass production and long distance shipping." "My wife and I are originally from New Jersey, where we met on a commuter train heading to our jobs in Manhattan. We moved to Newbury ten years ago, where we share our home and farm with Fred and Sandy, two Standard Poodles we adopted from Poodle Rescue of New England." |

Greater Newburyport CSA |
The Greater Newburyport CSA is a multi-farm CSA. We have created an alliance with accomplished growers who are either certified organic or growing organically. By supporting us, you're helping to sustain multiple small farm growers in their quest to provide quality produce to people in the Greater Newburyport area. Together, we'll provide you with a colorful array of vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers that are fresh-picked and grown without contaminants. |
Throughout the 2010 CSA season, we'll be profiling the people who will be growing for you. We'll also be conducting Member Spotlight interviews to give you the opportunity to share what you enjoy about your CSA experience with others! |
